Irai Web Series Review

 Irai Web Series Review

The domain of OTT platforms in the Indian sub-continent took its rise during the pandemic season when a wide array of new releases directly got their premiere skipping the theatrical releases. Significantly, the Post-pandemic phase has opened a new market for the Tamil industry to exhibit their potentials. Irai is one among the rare league of web series that has been made distinctly following the paradigm of perfect series formulae.

This 6-episode web series streaming on Aha Tamil is based on the book ‘Birds of Prey. Rajesh M Selva (Thoonga Vanam, Kadaram Kondan fame) has directed the show featuring Sarathkumar in the lead role.

The story revolves around men from a particular hill station getting disappeared. ACP Robert Vasudevan (Sarathkumar) is assigned to handle the case confidentially, handcuff the criminal and save the victims within a limited period. However, Robert feels the case is more complicated than he had perceived. He has to battle his avatar of the past that keeps haunting him while cracking the case.

The screenwriting has been perfectly written, and the top-notch technical works play a pivotal part in keeping us engrossed. Sarathkumar’s performance is flawless, but it’s Abhishek Shankar standing out as the showstopper. The other actors have done their best. Ghibran’s BGM helps a lot in visual enhancement. If you’re looking out for the flip side, then it could be the narrative part, for the story switching back and forward slightly hampers the intensity of the investigation thriller. It was the same with November Story (Tamannah starrer series on Disney Plus Hotstar). However, it doesn’t impact so much on our watching experience.

On the whole, Irai deserves a watch for its decent presentation of stellar performances, nitty-gritty thriller elements, and of course, commendable technical approach.

Verdict: An impressive package that keeps you engrossed throughout the show

Rating: 3/5
