 TamilRockerz Series Review

AVM Productions and SonyLIV together have produced 8-episode series ‘TamilRockerz’ directed by Arivazhagan (Eeram, Kuttram 23). Arun Vijay, Vani Bhojan, Ishwarya Menon, Azhagam Perumal, Sulile Kumar, Vinodhini Vijaykumar and few others in the star cast.

Few unknown cyber pirates have threatened to leak HD quality of an A-league superstar’s movie 24 hours prior to the worldwide theatrical release. With the entire film crew and producers council perplexed by the conflicting situation, police department unofficially appoints cop Rudra (Arun Vijay) to trap the miscreants and stop the movie’s illegal online release.

The instant notification you get from TamilRockerz by the first 3-4 episodes is that the writing has gone wrong in the attempt of mixing the commercial elements in a story premise that is totally thriller. What should have kept the audiences edge-seated fails to do so by amalgamating the plot with unwanted tracks and not-so engaging narration… To be precise, this series would have worked better with 5-6 episodes. Moreover, the sequences are too predictable. The penultimate-to-climax episodes are too dragging.

There are few positives as well. Regardless of what a story or plot is, Arun Vijay never misses to deliver his promising performance. The next one to win our appreciations is Azhagam Perumal, who plays the producer’s role. The other one is the actor enacting the role of an aggressive filmmaker. Although, these characters have minimal prominence, they add up intensity to the plot. In contrast, the characters we see alongside Arun Vijay, who actually are supposed to contribute majorly lack the substantiality. Vani Bhojan looks totally vague and obscure. Vinodhini and other actors accompanying him are more like clowns rather than serious characters.

Technically, cinematography is appreciable in many places, and editing too is good. BGM helps to build the intensity of the play in many occasions.

On the whole, TamilRockerz basically has a content that would have worked out well as an Original movie rather than series. If you’ve to edit the entire season with just gripping moments, then its running length would be not more than 150-180 mins.

Verdict: TamilRockerz keeps juggling between offbeat and commercial zones, which leave viewers in confused state.
