Laththi Movie Review

 Laththi Movie Review

Actor Vishal’s Laththi had kept the inquisitiveness at its peak. Thanks to the scintillating visual promos that teased our excitement and made us mark the film on a watchlist. Yeah! The comparisons with the 2011 Indonesian movie ‘The Raid’ was quite inevitable, but all these assumptions wind up as we are into the movie.

An honest police constable Muruganantham (Vishal) and his 10-yr old son get entrapped inside an unmanned construction site with a legion of barbarian criminals looking out to kill them mercilessly.

Actor Vishal’s intense dedication has been evident in his movies, and Laththi is no exception. He sweats and bleeds unconditionally with his efforts in action sequences. We have always wanted to see Vishal in an action-packed avatar and he brings it all in an impeccable style.

Getting on with the screenwriting, the first half has light moments with more focus drawn into the personal space of the protagonist and his family along with the establishment of conflict with the antagonists. However, the characterization of villains could have been a little more powerful. Actor Ramana is a talented actor, and yet, the shaping of his character remains a little feeble. If he had a couple of scenes to build up the powerful nature, it would have increased the value of this movie as well. Sunaina is good with her portions, and a little kid like Vishal’s son does a neat job.

The biggest cherry-pick is the action sequences, especially the climax one choreographed by Peter Hein. The entire stunt department has worked its best in keep us edge-seated on many occasions. They look so realistic, and Vishal deserves special mention for performing many stunts without any dupes. We can see him diving from long heights without rope too.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s musical score is just middling, and the cinematography by Balasubramaniem is extraordinary, especially in the stunt sequences.

If the film was tweaked a bit, it would have been racier than what it is now. But overall, Laththi is engaging in parts. Action film lovers can give it a try, and they won’t be disappointed with this film.
